At the harbor of Höfn, in Mikligarður, a project is growing guided by
Hanna Jonsdottir, Valentina Maria-Mächler and Michou-Nanon de Bruijn.
Hanna and Michou are directing the reacherch and designing the greenhouses while Valentina watches over the growing process as a documentary Video-designer
They're are now interested in spending effort in creating a new
identity for gardening in Hornafjörður area. Due to the expenses and
mal-quality of vegetables and fruits on the market, urges the awareness for different types/methods of greenhouse gardening.
This project will develope over years in different fields. They want
to investigate all sides of it and gather more professional opinions,
in alternative energy use, health and soil research.

2009
The first prototype greenhouse is build. It will be transported in February
to the swimming-pool (hot-tub) of Höfn. where it will be located under the
slides and enjoy the warm-floored position. The first shape is designed to
grow a wide variety of vegetables. The high space is to grow tomatoes and,
ore beens. The lower space can be used for a range of floor growing plants.
The controlled size will help to capture the floor warmth, which exists in
many Icelandic areas naturally by transporting the hot water from a geiser.
Frumsmíð fyrstu útgáfu gróðurhússins er
lokið, og hefur Hornafjarðabær boðið þann
góða og nýstárlega kost að koma því fyrir
undir vatnsrennibraut sundlaugarinnar á
Höfn í Hornafirði. Hinn vel þekkti jarðvarmi
Íslands sem nýst hefur við kyndingu húsa í
áraraðir, nýtist sömuleiðis prýðilega þegar
kemur að ræktun matvæla. Það er því hen-
tugt að mega nýta þann hita sem er til staðar
í og við sundlaugina. Hitinn streymir upp af
yfirborðinu, og heldur hita inn í gróðurhú-
sinu. Ræktun hvers kyns grænmetis og eða
ávaxta verður raunhæfur kostur með því að
nýta hitann frá upphituðum svæðum. Svæðið
er afgirt og vaktað, og því um nokkuð
örugga staðsetningu að ræða. Stærð þessara
gróðurhúsa felur í sér hagkvæma nýtingu á
þeim jarðvarma sem er til staðar, án þess að
þurfa að leggja sérstakar lagnir inn í slíkt
gróðurhús. Þessi hiti í gróðurhúsunum yfir
vetrartíman verður ef til vill aldrei mikill en
nægur til þess að halda því frostlausu. Við
stefnum að því að fullnýta útbreiðslu
jarðvarma sem þegar hefur verið lagður í
jörð, sem og að finna staði með frárennslis-
lögnum með heitu vatni. Okkur þykir það
spennandi kostur að athuga með svæði í
kringum skóla, almenningsgörðum og við
elliheimili.
